A Safe Food Source You Might Be Providing For The Mice
We are often called to homes throughout Melbourne where our clients are concerned that they may have mice. In many of these instances, our clients are contributing to the problem by unwittingly providing a safe and consistent food source for the mice.
Rodents are omnivores which means that will basically eat anything that they eat. They do prefer seeds, grains and fruit but they will also eat animal products.
Whilst we provide a control program with rodenticides a significant part of our service is to educate the client. We teach about the potential food sources usually present on-site and how some of these products need proper storage or management.
For example, chicken feed should be stored in sealable containers. If fruit trees are in close proximity, any fallen fruit demands collection on a daily basis.
It is typical that rodents like to nest near a food source. This could be in roof voids, walls of your home, under the house or in the garage in boxes of stored goods. We also find nests in overgrown gardens and these require maintenance to reduce the opportunity of any nesting.
Rodents, much like humans, are looking for a safe harborage for their family with access to a food/water source. It’s time to identify whether or not you are providing a safe food source for the mice!
